LAWRENCE, D[AVID]. H[ERBERT]. Pansies. June 1929 . London: (printed by P.R. Stephenson for subscribers only), 1929. One of 500 copies, this copy 263, signed by Lawrence. Original printed wrappers in original glassine wrapper and publisher's white card slipcase. 9 x 5 3/4 inches (22.5 x 24.5 cm); [14], 126 pp. Glassine toned but card covers underneath bright, the box with some cracks starting at the spine, but still quite solid; Together with an autograph letter signed by Lawrence, addressed to [Albert] Stopford, Fontana Vecchia, [12 February, 1920], in ink on onionskin paper, reading "Dear Stopford, Thank you very much; we will come on Wednesday. About tonight I am not sure, one feels so cold and unexpansive. Bitter the sky, with almond blossom, Benedicite, D. H. Lawrence." Usual folds, minor creases. The letter is published, see page 52 of the Letters... Stopford was an art dealer, and a member of a collateral branch of Irish nobility. Lawrence sent him a signed copy of The Rainbow at around this time. The date provided is that conjectured by the editors of the Letters. C
