(Title repaired on verso and creased, light marginal soiling and browning, marginal tears repaired to verso of approximately 15 leaves, lacking plates nos. 46, 60 and 89, small marginal ink spotting on plates 33 and 72, plate 40 with closed tear, folding plates mounted on linen, rubbing to fold on plate 100, last 3 pages almost detached.) The work was commissioned by Charles de Ferriol (1652-1722) French ambassador in the Ottoman Empire between 1699 and 1709 and illustrates the regional, religious and national costume of the Turkish Empire.
