Fine and Rare Wines 13 November 2010 Dear Client, Welcome to the day portion of this weekend's festivities. Following Friday night's sale of exceptional wines, we're back with a broader selection of wines for your bidding pleasure. We start, as we often do, with Bordeaux. Pristine first growths and right bank classics kick off the sale in fine fashion. These wines are followed shortly after with California's greatest: Screaming Eagle in numerous vintages, as well as Bryant, Harlan, Maya, Abreu, Caymus and Araujo in benchmark vintages. Closing out our first consignor's offering is a large parcel of 1996 Dom Pérignon Rosé, perfect for stocking up for the holidays. The Dom is quickly followed by even more Champagne. This time, it's Krug in its myriad forms, from the same consignor who offered the Clos d'Ambonnay the night before. Later in the sale, we offer a large selection of grands formats from all over: super Tuscans, incredibly rare Conterno Monfortino Riserva, Bordeaux, and even rare DRC magnums, jeroboams, and Methuselah. For the Montrachet drinker we have a section of the world's greatest white, including producers DRC, Leflaive and Ramonet. For lovers of Pinot and Chardonnay, we have a large section of Burgundy not often seen at auction, such as Anne Gros, Dugat-Py and Mommessin followed by white wines from Kistler. Finally, we close out the sale with a New York portion of a large sale held in London earlier this year. This selection is truly a "drinker's collection" and is highlighted by numerous lots of esoterica offered at no reserve. Please join us for a complimentary brunch on sale day. Should you require photos or more information, please don't hesitate to contact me or one of my specialists directly. Sincerely, Charles Curtis MW Head of North American Wine Sales MAGNIFICENT COLLECTING SPANNING THE GLOBE Few collections can match the breadth and depth of our lead-off consignment. The owner of this cellar, a long standing friend to Christie's, has spent nearly fifteen years amassing this cache of incredible wine, in great depth. Not only did the collector focus on buying widely across regions and producers within each, he also bought in great quantity. Cases upon cases of the best greeted our eyes when we traveled to inspect this collection. Cases of Lafite were stacked floor to ceiling, along side Mouton and Margaux. The sheer quantity of 1985 Sassicaia amassed made it seem like an easy wine to procure, when in fact the consignor purchased every single bottle he could find over the past 15 years. Even a cursory glance will give away the secret of his favorite Champagne: we offer here over 10 cases of the 1996 Dom Pérignon Rosé. Many important bottlings of Bordeaux from the past 30 years are here, most in great quantity: 2000 Le Pin, 1989 Pétrus, 1989 Haut-Brion, Lafite and Mouton from 1982 and 1986 and an incredibly rare complete case of 1955 Latour. The new world is represented en masse by Screaming Eagle, Bryant Family in solid cases, Maya, Dominus Araujo in large formats and Colgin. A slew of 1997's from Antinori, Tenuta San Guido and Gaja headline the offerings from Italy. A small, but tightly focused, Burgundy section presents Coche Dury and a very rare magnum of 1996 Montrachet from Ramonet. Lovers of Mouton and Lafite will feast over the cases of '82, '86 and '96 available here. Apart from the marquee names, this consignment also demonstrates the current owner's passion for excellent drinking wines. Mixed lots perfect for current consumption are here in force for the thirsty collector from California and Australia and the Old World. The consignor has recently completed the construction of a new home with a new cellar to match, and we proudly offer those wines that could not fit in the updated space. He is a passionate and generous collector, a true gentleman and a pleasure to work with. The wines were sourced from a variety of reputable merchants, brokers and auctions and were placed immedia
