LE ROUGE, George Louis (c.1712-c.1790). Recueil des cotes maritimes de France. Paris: Desnos, 1766. Second edition, revised by Louis Brion de la Tour, of an important atlas of the French coastline. The folding map is the key to the 50 maps in this atlas. 'G. L. Le Rouge specialized more on atlases of plans and fortifications. He was educated as a military engineer' (Tooley) and published the French editions of many important American maps from the 1740s, notably that of the Folger-Franklin hydrographic chart of the Gulf Stream. Phillips Atlases 5998; Tooley, p. 44. Quarto (269 x 207mm). Engraved double-page title, engraved folding map, 50 engraved double-page maps, coloured by a contemporary hand (light worming to blank lower right corners, folding map with margins renewed, some minor darkening). Contemporary quarter calf, spine gilt, red morocco lettering-piece.
