LEAR, TOBIAS] A curious 19th century copy of Lear's famous letter sent to Colonel Burgess Ball recording the death of George Washington. The original letter was written from Mount Vernon on 15 December 1799 and this letter on 19th century lined paper is headed "copy" and bears a signature very closely matching Lear's, although the letter in an unknown hand. Worthy of research; Together with a copy of a letter from Andrew Jackson to Colonel White, dated 1845, possibly written during his final illness.
