LEMERY, [?Nicolas de (1645-1715)]. Recueil de curiositez rares et nouvelles de plus admirables effets de la nature & de l'art . Paris: Luois Vendosme, 1676. 2 parts in one volume, 12° (146 x 80mm). (A few inner margins lightly waterstained, a few leaves lightly browned, a few spots). Contemporary calf, spine decorated gilt in compartments (head and tail of spine a little chipped, somewhat rubbed). Provenance : Brababan (signature on pastedown). RARE. This early cookery book was first published in 1674. It has been attributed to Nicolas Lémery by NUC and BNC, and to Antoine Joseph d'Emery by BMC. The books includes chapters on cooking, making wine and vinegar, preserving flowers, fruits, vegetables, fish and meat. Krivatsy 3645; cf. Bitting p.144 (later editions); cf. Vicaire 327-328 (later editions); cf. Wellcome II, 522 (later editions).
