Engraved frontispiece portrait, title printed in red and black, 35 engraved plates, including 4 folding, ornamental woodcut initials and headpieces. (Inscription on title erased causing large stains, mainly marginal soiling, disbound.) Contemporary calf (covers detached, spine broken, worn). Provenance : Jacob Walton; Thomas Bacon and Mary; James Bibby Rumbulb (inscriptions on pastedown) -- Charles William Quinn (bookplate). FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH of Leonardo da Vinci's Trattato della pittura , first published in Italian in 1651. Lowndes VII, 2774.
