Fini (1907-1996) was an Argentinian artist, most closely associated with Surrealism, and was also the scenery and costume designer for the Paris Opera Ballet's production of Symphony in C premiered 1947, in Paris, in which choreographer George Balanchine created a starring role for the ballerina Toumanova. Like Fini herself, the dancer was known in the Parisian Surrealist circle of the 1940s and associated with artists Salvador Dalí (see lots 459-468), Joan Miró (see lots 436-457) and Pavel Tchelitehew.
