Autograph letter (AL), not signed, to his sister Marie-Antoinette, the queen of France. Dated June 6, no year, but 1791. 1 page in octavo (225x185 mm). Leopold writes about their difficult situation and their approaching flight. The letters begin "Très chère soeur. J'ai reçu votre petit billet et la lettre en chiffres, ...". Leopold recieved the letter from his sister, which was given to him by baron de Breteuil and marquis de Bombelles, he (Leopold) is highly concerned about their well-being, sends his prayers, and will wait for their orders. Photo. The letter was published in Lever, E., Correspondance de Marie-Antoinette 1770-1793, p. 538, Tallandier 2005. The flight of the French Royal family took place on 22 june 1791 with the help of among others the Swedish Count Axel von Fersen. It ended in Varennes, where they where captured. Provenance: Stavsund castle, Sweden. Stafsund was owned by the family von Klinckowström, who through marriage was related to Axel von Fersen (his sister Hedvig Eleonora married Thure Leonard Klinckowström).
