Early French manuscript of the "Key of Solomon", probably the most famous and important of all magical handbooks. The talismans include "pour les honneurs et les richesses", "contre les betes immondes et poissons", "auquels tous les espirits obeissent", "pour etre invulnerable", etc., relating to the summoning and mastery of spiritual powers. This copy with a couple of modern notes laid in. Lot Amendments Condition: Lettering-piece lacking, minor edge-wear and corners showing, endpapers worn; binding overall quite loose with several pages detached and laid in (but complete according to early pagination), browning, occasional smudges and offsetting, one blank corner torn away, scattered few other tears; overall, still very good, in a neat, legible hand and with brightly colored diagrams.
