Title: Les Méthodes Nouvelles de la Mécanique Céleste Author: Poincaré, Henri Place Paris Publisher: Gauthier-Villars Date: 1892-1899 Description: 3 volumes. Mathematician, theoretical physicist and philosopher Henri Poincaré (1854-1912) was ‘the mathematician who after Newton did the most remarkable work in celestial mechanics... Poincaré inaugurated the rigorous treatment of celestial mechanics, in opposition to the semi-empirical computations that had been prevalent before him.
