Lesser Ury (German, 1861-1931) Berliner Dom an der Spree, von der Kurfürstenbrücke aus gesehen [The Berlin Cathedral at the River Spree, seen from the Kurfuersten Bridge], c. 1920s Signed and inscribed "L. Ury/Berlin" l.l., inscribed "100" on the artist's estate label affixed to the reverse, and with an Ausstellung Gerstenberger Chemnitz, Germany, exhibition label affixed to the frame. Oil on canvas, 19 3/4 x 13 3/4 in. (50.2 x 34.9 cm), framed. Condition: Losses, canvas deformations, craquelure, surface grime. Provenance: Estate of the artist, Berlin; acquired by Max Karl Wolff and Lucie Tichauer Wolff, Berlin, prior to mid-1930s; by family descent to the present owners. Literature: Lesser Ury "Berlin," Menorah: Jüdisches Familienblatt für Wissenschaft, Kunst und Literatur, Jahrgang 9, No. 11/12 (November/December 1931): p. 547 (illus. as Berlin); Arthur Eloesser, "Lesser Ury," Elsevier's Geillustreerd Maandschrift, Jaargang 42, Vol. 84, Part 2 (July-December 1932): p.1-9 (illus. between pp. 4 and 5 [as Dom in Berlijn, na 1900]).
