Beschreibung:

Signed Halachic response letter by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Tumarkin Av Beit Din of Kremenchuk. [1869?]. The son of the Tzemach Tzedek, Admor Rabbi Israel Noach is mentioned a couple of times in the letter: “…and despite that, I am not making judgment, but merely expressing my surprise about our beloved friend Rabbi Israel Noach’s approval, which undoubtedly comes from his outstanding intelligence”. The first part of the letter which deals with the spelling of the Town’s name “Novardok Siwersky” on rabbinical divorce papers was published in a compilation called “Yagdil Torah” (Year 6, 44-49 – based on a manuscript found in the Chabad library). The reply was cut in the middle and the present letter is the missing end of this reply, bearing the author’s signature. This letter was written on Hannukah 1869 or 1873 (see enclosed material). The Chabad genius Rabbi Yosef Tumarkin (1813-1874), of the “lions” among the Tzemach Tzedek’s disciples, was dear and important in the eyes of his rabbi. Served as rabbi of Soran and Kremenchuk. Gained prominence in Lithuania and Russia as one of the leading Torah sages, [his approbations appear on numerous books, even on some of those authored by the Gra’s disciples]. His manuscripts are mentioned in the book “Beit Rabbi: (p. 254): “…and many rabbis of our generation ran their questions by him, his replies were very profound and can be found in manuscripts left to his descendants who intend to print them”. In fact, most of his manuscripts were lost and only slight remnants reached the New York Lubavitch library. 2 pages, 20.5 cm. Very tightly written. Good-fair condition, restored damages, the text is complete.
