Single page, in ink, on letterhead of French Republic. 31.5x20.4 cm (12¼x8"). Rare manuscript letter signed, with the body of the letter perhaps in a secretarial hand, from the French Revolutionary general who was the father of famed author Alexandre Dumas, pere, and notably the first person of African descent to rise to general rank in the French army. The rather elaborate letterhead of the Armée des Cotes de Brest features a woodcut of military accoutrements, and has the printed name of General Moulin crossed out, and that of Dumas written in.
