LIBER AMICORUM -- 90 original drawings taken from album amicorum on vellum and paper, mostly illuminated armorial drawings, others emblematic or antiquarian, including historical costumes. Germany, earliest dated 1577, most late 16th and early 17th century.

Germany, earliest dated 1577, most late 16th and early 17th century. Mounted on 74 leaves in an album, late 19th-century half cloth. Provenance : v. Hefner Alteneck (armorial bookplate); acquired from Heritage Book Shop, 1975. A fine collection of drawings covering a wide range of subjects, including coats-of arms, costumes, allegorical and emblematic scenes. From the collection of J.H. von Hefner-Alteneck, who puplished in 1880-81 his Trachten Kunstwerke und Gerathschaften , a collection of plates of early Christian and medieval design and artifacts.
