Approximately 28 million years old Sahara Desert, near Libyan-Egypt border Libyan Desert Glass is a tektite of almost pure silica that formed 28 million years ago when a large meteorite exploded over the Sahara Desert, vaporizing itself and melting surrounding sand which cooled quickly as it fell back to earth in a variety of shapes. This sphere has been cut from a much larger valuable piece of this beautiful glass and contains small spherical inclusions that may be remnants of the original meteorite. Dark brown wisps float within the pale yellow to yellow-green coloration, which can be fully appreciated on its lighted black base. Diameter measures 2in, Weighs 209 grams Base measures 3.75 x 3.75in
