Autograph letter signed to David Hubbard, Washington, D.C., 15 June 1838, 3 1/2 pages, 4to, repair to central fold, a fine letter: "...I have long seen the vast superiority of the route through Georgia to the Tennessee....and at an early period I pressed, with all my might, the very one, that you so strongly recommend...but in vain...." But he has now "so far succeeded, that the Charleston & Cincinnati rail road company have purchased out the Charleston & Harrisburgh rail roads, with the view of uniting with the Augusta & Athens, and finally... with the Tennessee River by that line....Georgia has also taken to make a rail road from the Chattahoochie to the Tennessee River....I take the deepest interest in the work, not only in a commercial but a political point of view.
