LINCOLN, Abraham. Engraved document signed ("Abraham Lincoln") as President, countersigned by Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton, Washington, D.C., 31 December 1862. 1 page, folio, PRINTED ON PARCHMENT, elaborately engraved, bold heading at top "The President of the United States of America," beneath which an American Eagle and the "E Pluribus Unum" motto fly above billowing clouds, at bottom a large vignette of crossed flags, cannon and other military paraphernalia, with small legend "Engraved by J.V.N. and C.H. Throop, Washn. City," accomplished in manuscript, signatures pale , otherwise fine, framed with a nice engraving of Lincoln, unexamined out of frame . Lincoln appoints Oscar Minor as an "Assistant Adjutant General, of Volunteers, with the rank of Captain." Minor, who began the war in the 4th Ohio Infantry, received a brevet as a lieutenant colonel by the war's end for his gallant conduct at the Battle of Resaca.
