An excellent group of printed ephemera and three letters relating to the Lincoln funeral (one to the hanging of the conspirators), all addressed to Mr. Alfred Berghmans, a member of the Washington diplomatic corps, or his wife, an acquaintance of Mary Lincoln (see lots 130, 131, 137, 140), including: Printed program "Order of the Procession," for the Lincoln funeral services in Washington, D.C., 19 April 1865. 1 page, 8vo, printed within black mourning borders, specifying the order in which the military escort, marshal, clergy, hearse and pallbearers, Senate and House, family, relatives, President Johnson, the cabinet etc. will assemble "in the avenue, north of the President's house" following the religious services, and other details of the official funeral. Very fine condition. -- Printed "Official arrangements at Washington for the funeral solemnities of the late Abraham Lincoln," Washington, D.C., 19 April 1865. 4 pages, 12mo, black border on each page. The same text as the preceding, with a small diagram of the positions of the hearse and pallbearers. Very fine condition -- Printed ticket: "Admit the Bearer to the Executive Mansion 19 April 1865. A small oblong, printed within black borders on heavy card. The official ticket (apparently unused) to the religious services at the White House which preceeded the funeral procession. Letter, with secretarial signature of W.J. Coulter, Acting Secretary of State, to Alfred Berghmans, Washington, D.C., 18 April 1865. 1 page, folio, integral blank . Enclosing "a programme of arrangements for the obsequies of the late President. Lengthy letter containing AN ACCOUNT OF THE EXECUTION OF THE LINCOLN CONSPIRATORS, recording carefully observed details of the event, including a description of the garb of Mrs. Surratt: "Mrs. Surratt monter la premiere l'horrible escalier [the gallows platform]. Elle tait en grand robe de laine noir, chle noir, chapeau noir couvert d'un long vaile de veuve...un crucifier la main"; the defiant attitude of Payne, etc. Together 6 items. (6)
