LINDBERGH, CHARLES A. Typed letter signed in full to Lester D. Gardner, "Estate of Dwight W. Morrow, Englewood, N.J.," 23 December 1937. One page, 4to, on imprinted stationery. THE AMERICAN EAGLE ATTENDS A CEREMONY FOR THE WRIGHT BROTHERS "Before more time passes, I want to tell you how greatly I appreciate the very considerate and eficient way in which you arranged the First Wright Brothers' Lecture and Honors Night Meeting last Friday. I cannot recall attending a similar occasion which I feel was as well planned and carried out. You combined interest and enthusiasm with dignity and appropriateness in a manner which is unprecedented in my experience. It was encouraging to me to realize that it is possible to arrange such an occasion under the conditions which exist in New York City. I greatly enjoyed the opportunity of talking to Orville Wright again and of seeing a number of my old friends..." Upon Lindbergh's triumphal return from France after his epic trans-Atlantic flight of l927, he had landed at Wright Field, near Dayton, and was received by Orville and taken to Wright's home for dinner. Later, Lindbergh tried to arrange for the publication of an authorized biography of the flight pioneer. For an interesting account of the Lindbergh-Wright relationship, which remained rather cool, see Howard, pp.437-439.
