LINDBERGH, CHARLES, Aviator . Typed letter signed ("Charles") to Sam Pryor, Darien, Conn., 30 March 1967. 1 page, 4to . LINDBERGH DECLINES AN INTERVIEW AND CAMPAIGNS TO SAVE THE WHALES. The famous American flyer discusses his refusal to become a public figure again and urges support for an environmental movement. He declines and interview because "...press contacts involve a life I am determined not to re-enter -- it is too distracting, superficial, and time consuming, and I don't want to be surrounded by its values. I think it is now close to a quarter century since I have taken part in a newspaper interview...Whenever you get a chance to talk whales to Japanese, please do so -- just to keep them interested in whales if nothing else. Japan, as you know, has been a bigger obstacle than Russia in getting whale-kill quotas down below the reproduction rate..."
