.58 caliber breechloader, 20" barrel, 27.5" overall. No markings on the lock; marked on the top of breech Edward Linder's Patent Mar 29, 1859. Two-leaf rear sight mounted on the top of tang. Walnut stock with iron tip and buttplate. Condition: All metal has been lightly cleaned to bright. All lines and markings are sharp and crisp. Left flat of stock has nice block-lettered cartouche "GKJ." Stock with some nicks and dings. Top flat of comb of stock with a dim cartouche in an oval along with the numbers "66." Bore is excellent. These carbines were issued to the 7th West Virginia Cavalry. Overall excellent for a great rare 1st type carbine.
