Contemporary burgundy morocco decorated in blind and gilt, gilt edges (extremities lightly rubbed, spines a little faded). Provenance : Robert Duncan (bookplate) -- Brocket Hall (bookplate). FIRST EDITION. Brunet III, 1142: "Ouvrage d'une très-belle exécution..." With a later edition of the same work (12 vols. in 6) bound in tan morocco gilt, and The Hundred Greatest Men. Portraits of the One Hundred Greatest Men of History (London, 1879-80, 4 vols.) bound in red half morocco gilt. (14)
