It has been relined. It seems to be sound and stable. The paint layer shows a general wear, especially in the dark background. The figures of Christ, the Virgin, Saint John and Mary Magdalene are relatively well-preserved. The lining has flattened the paint layer, but it does not show any visible loss or uplift. The varnish layer is slightly yellow and dirty. A few small white traces of rubbing are visible lower right. Under UV light Examination under UV light reveals areas of retouching, most of them of minor importance, scattered throughout the surface. One more important retouching appears on the left flank of Christ, and another vertical one along the steam of the two pieces of canvas, at circa third from the right edge. Offered with a gilt baguette. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the condition of the frame. Le tableau est dans un état de conservation satisfaisant. Il a fait l'objet d'un rentoilage. Le support est sain et stable. La couche picturale montre une usure généralisée notable, principalement dans les fonds sombres. Le corps du Christ et de la Vierge ainsi que saint Jean et Marie Madeleine sont relativement bien préservés. Le rentoilage a aplani la matière picturale sur la surface du tableau. La toile ne présente ni manque ni soulèvement apparent. Le vernis est légèrement jauni et encrassé. Quelques petites traces de frottements blanches sont visibles dans la partie inférieure droite. À la lampe UV L'éclairage révèle des retouches pour la plupart de faible importance, disséminées sur la surface de la toile. Une retouche plus importante apparaît au niveau du flanc gauche du Christ, ainsi qu'une autre, verticale, le long des deux 2 lés de toile à un tiers de la partie droite.
