(Offsetting from map, occasional marginal soiling or staining, a few isolated spots.) Contemporary tree calf, gilt spine with morocco label (rubbed, mainly on spine).

An employee of the Hudson's Bay Company, the author lived among the Indians of Canada over a period of nineteen years, gaining a thorough and intimate knowledge of the character, customs and domestic life of the native tribes. "His is a graphic record of Indian life and customs and of conditions in the fur trade during the furious competition of the Montreal traders among themselves and with the Hudson's Bay Co."
