Title: Lot of 3 photographs of the Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, California Author: ** Place: [Vallejo, CA] Publisher: Date: [c. 1920] Description: Gelatin silver print photographs. Comprises: 4¾x7¾" photo showing three early fire-engines next to three buildings (one with a banner with various dates - last one dated 1919). Small pin holes and two corner creases. * 6¼x8¼" photo showing four male workers posing with a Model-T Ambulance with "U.S. Navy Yard, Mare Island" painted on side. * 5½x10" photo showing eight men in uniform posing with four fire-engines (1 only partially visible), three buildings in background (two are brick buildings including the firehouse) and rail tracks running down the center of the image. Together, 3 photographs. Mare Island Naval Shipyard was the first naval station on the West Coast, founded in 1854. It closed in 1996 as part of a federal military base consolidation program. Lot Amendments Condition: General edge wear and rubbing; else very good to near fine. Item number: 157771
