Title: Lot of eight volumes of the ledgers of the Brown and Tassell Boots & Shoes Company in Virginia City, Nevada Author: ** Place: [Virginia City, NV] Publisher: Date: [1872-1883] Description: 8 ledger volumes. Approximately 4500 pages. Manuscript, mostly in pencil. Mostly 15x6" each, original calf. Conrad Brown and John Tassell were drawn to Virginia City in late 1871 to capitalize on the mining boom of the Comstock Lode. Their shop was located on 565 "C" Street. They did a great business selling and repairing all varieties of shoes. Some people paid in cash and others in gold or silver. A new pair of miner boots cost $4.50. This is possibly the most comprehensive business archive for any firm associated with the Comstock Lode, covering twelve years of business. Lot Amendments Condition: Bindings and endpapers defective and quite moldy; some dampstain internally, scattered heavy soiling, 2 vols. very damaged; sold as is. Item number: 166541
