Lot of four CDVs, including: a fine CDV of a young midshipman holding his anchor insignia hat, with Chase & Bachrach's U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD, backmark; a wartime CDV of a Union soldier, lacking any imprints or identifications; another anonymous, unidentified wartime CDV, showing a bearded man in a light outfit, wearing boots, a forage hat, and a belt with a frog; and a CDV vignette of a young officer with recto and verso imprints of J Insley Pacheco of Rio de Janeiro, with the verso ink inscription Truly Your Bro./[T.C. Lowell/Ewell???]/U.S.A.. Pacheco was the most important 19th century photographer in Rio, earning the title of Photographer of the Imperial House after emigrating from Portugal to Brazil via New York, where he was an apprentice to Mathew Brady ca 1849-1851. Condition: Edge wear and moderate soiling.
