Over 35 documents, most indentures and deeds, many associated with Cornell Stowell and James Armstrong About six other documents associated with Eli (Ely) Day, dating between 1807 and 1827. These include two indentures for land, plus insurance for Aug 1827-Aug. 1828, payment for Lot 270 in the new Burying Ground in Rochester, two pew rentals in the Presbyterian Church of Granville, 1822 (transfer of rights from Luke Hitchcock) and 1824 (transfer of rights from Abraham Plumb). Cornell S. Stowell (1839-1901), son of Josiah (1809-1875) & Martha Stowell, married Delphine Armstrong (1841-1917). James Armstrong is likely his father- (or brother)-in-law. (More likely father, as Stowell seems to represent James' widow, Betsy, in a few transactions.) Over half of the documents in this group are from the Stowell-Armstrong family, and most are land contracts, suggesting that Cornell may have been in real estate in upstate New York. There are a couple of documents for plots from the Smithboro Cemetery Association, and, indeed, there are over a dozen family members buried in that cemetery (see http://interment.net/data/us/ny/tioga/smithboro/index.htm). There are also a few items of unknown relationship to these others, such as two bills for materials from L. Burr Pearsall, Hooper Valley, NY for 1879 and 1882. However, there is no note as to whom the sales are credited. (It could be Stowell or Armstrong.) A "Geological Mmap of Tioga Co." likely relates to Stowell (especially if he is buying and selling real estate. One deed is for land from Peter Walling to Samuel Wills and Hampton Updike (1850). Another is from land from Quartus Brown to Sylvester Smith (1846). A postcard to Julia Brooks is one of the later items, dated 1901. Other (apparently) unrelated items are a letter from Jerry Flanegin (?sp.) to "Johnny Haggarty in the north of Ireland" and a letter from Levi Vaile to his brother Harvey Vaile (1805-1873), originally of Bennington Co., VT. Harvey moved west and died in Missouri in 1873. This letter is from 1828. There is likely much history to be discovered yet in these documents. Condition: Most documents with folds and slight separations. Some of the later documents are partially typed, and that ink has faded.
