Title: Lot of photographs, letters, and ephemera Author: Morrison, Alex J. Place: Publisher: Date: [c.1932-1940] Description: With: “Dear Alex,” an original scrapbook of letters, photographs and 7x10” color printing tipped onto patterned card stock and presented to Morrison; letters are from friends and colleagues, most on King Features Syndicate letterhead; the authors of the letters include Ward Greene (author of Lady and the Tramp, etc); Joseph Willicombe, Jr. (Close friend and Secretary to William Randolph Hearst), Paul Frehm (Writer/Cartoonist for Ripley’s Believe it or Not), Samuel Schulman (photographer for International News Photos, author of Where’s Sammy?); other letters from Gene Brockhaven, John W. Donald, Jack R. Hornady, Frank C. Mclearn, and John Wolter; all letters typed on letterhead and handsigned; oblong; 11x15”; also included are 2 11x14” photos of Morrison in mid-swing; 2 photos from a photo series for a John Ward Golf Shoes advertising pamphlet (with published pamphlet); famous “Bunk!” advertisement for Morrison’s “A New Way to Better Golf” along with 8 original prints (six at 11x14”, one at 8x10”) from series used in advertisement; 7 large format offprints from articles by Morrison for King Features Syndicate, Ledger Syndicate, Central Press Association, as well as an advertisement for Ten High liquor. Alex Morrison was a celebrated twentieth century golf instructor who published two books and many articles on golf instruction; his list of students include Babe Ruth, Rex Beach, Jack Dempsey and others Lot Amendments Condition: Some light discoloration to edges of scrapbook, small tears/chipping, staining from glue applications on verso, else very good; letters show staining from glue, else near fine; photos generally worn with heavy chipping to edges; “Bunk!” article discolored with heavy chipping to edges; offprints are creased, some discoloration, otherwise very good; overall very good Item number: 194290
