Paris: Rothschild, 1870. With an archive of correspondence bound or laid in, 11 letters to Champfleury from his publishers and others and two pencil sketches, numerous reviews at the rear. One letter is from Jules Michelet presumably the same as the well-known French historian. 7¼x4½, later half cloth, original wrappers bound in. First Edition. * Contes d'Automne. Paris: Victor Lecou, 1854. Presentation copy, signed and inscribed by the author and with an autograph letter signed by him tipped in. This copy with three etched plates laid in. 7x4¼, period quarter morocco. First Edition. * Contes Choisis. Paris: Quantin, 1889. Illustrated by Evert van Muyden Bookplate of Charles DeLanglade. No. 446 of 945 copies on paper. 9x6¾, later half cloth. Includes two important copies with manuscript material included. Champfleury (1821-1889) is considered a pioneer of French realism and was an important cultural figure in this period. Lot Amendments Condition: Mild wear to bindings, some foxing to title-page of "Contes d'Automne"; overall very good. Item number: 165575
