David Low professor of agriculture in the University of Edinburgh, commissioned the artist William Shiel to paint portraits of the animal subjects from which the magnificent lithographed plates were made. A good copy. 2 volumes, folio (424 x 321mm). 56 hand-coloured lithographed plates by Fairland after W. Nicholson, from paintings by William Shiels tissue guards (without half-titles). Contemporary green half morocco gilt, gilt spine and edges (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: Il Polifilo (bookseller's ticket). (2)
