Lt. General Robert Garrett - A Pewter Quart Size Tankard, 19th Century, inscribed 'My Campaign Tankard used in the Crimea- Lt. General Robert Garrett - 46th Regt.at Harrow School, Garrett was commissioned into the 2nd (The Queen's Royal) Regiment of Foot in 1811.[1] He served in the Peninsular War and was present at the Battle of Fuentes de Onoro in 1811.In 1846 he was appointed Commanding Officer of the 46th Regiment of Foot[2] and in 1854 was despatched to the Crimean War where he commanded a Brigade of the 4th Division at the Siege of Sevastopol.1858 he was appointed Commander of British Troops in China and Hong Kong before going on to India where he was General Officer Commanding a Division in Bengal and then in Madras.He returned to England in 1865 to take command of South East District, in retirement he lived in Pall Mall in London, he was also Colonel of the 43rd Regiment of Footthe Crimean War, (1854-1856) the 46th were involved at the Battle of the Alma, September 20, 1854; the Battle of Balaklava, October 25, 1854; the Battle of Inkermann, November 5, 1854; the Siege of Sebastopol, September 25, 1854 to September 8, 1855; the Trench Warfare; the Assault on the Quarries, June 7, 1855; the First Assault on the Redan, June 18, 1855 and the Final Assault on the Redan, September 18, 1855.During the Crimean War, (1854-1856) the 46th were involved at the Battle of the Alma, September 20, 1854; the Battle of Balaklava, October 25, 1854; the Battle of Inkermann, November 5, 1854; the Siege of Sebastopol, September 25, 1854 to September 8, 1855; the Trench Warfare; the Assault on the Quarries, June 7, 1855; the First Assault on the Redan, June 18, 1855 and the Final Assault on the Redan, September 18, 1855.
