Affascinato dalle innumerevoli forme del corpo umano in movimento, Minguzzi intravedeva nella figura dell’acrobata un ideale di bellezza armoniosa ma vigorosa, osservabile da ogni punto di vista perché aperta e in costante confronto con lo spazio che la circondava. Le masse plastiche di questi due personaggi in movimento, infatti, prendono forma in assoluta libertà dinamica ed espressiva, mediante un’indagine accurata delle loro forme essenziali, scarnificate, senza fronzoli e prive di ogni inutile decorativismo. I corpi dei due contorsionisti sono avvinghiati tra loro in una soluzione formale insolita, in una posa bizzarra e dall’equilibrio precario, la tensione delle loro masse si raccoglie in una forza chiusa, intervallata e alleggerita solo dalle improvvise aperture nella materia aspra e corrosa. Acrobats and contortionists were Luciano Minguzzi’s most personal and most thoroughly-investigated subjects between the late 1930s and the mid-Fifties. Fascinated by the innumerable forms assumed by the human body in movement, Minguzzi glimpsed in the figure of the acrobat a harmonious yet vigorous beauty, open to and constantly confronting the surrounding space and therefore appreciable from every point of view. The plastic masses of these two moving figures take shape in absolute dynamic and expressive freedom but through accurate investigation of their essential, skeletal forms, economically austere and devoid of any unnecessary decorativism. The bodies of the two contortionists are entwined in an unusual formal solution, in a bizarre pose and in precarious equilibrium, the tension of their masses gathered in a closed circle of force broken and relieved only at intervals by unexpected openings in the harsh, corroded matter.
