District. "Wednesday 18 [June 1820] left Keswic after Breakfast, passed by the Lake of Thirlmere, or Leatheswater in Cumb: near the foot of Helvellyn; & by Grasmere which is very pretty. Got out at Rydal, to see a fine cascade, & a very romantic Cottage, the Garden was cut out of the Rocks. Mrs G - who lived there very politely showed us the finest views about there. Changed H - at Ambleside passed close by the Lake Windermere, the largest in England, went through Bowness, a beautiful village." of George IV.
