LULL, Ramón (c. 1232-1315). Libelli aliquot Chemici . Edited by Michel Toxites. Basel: Peter Perna, 1572. 8º (164 x 95mm). Woodcut of the ‘arbor operationis’ on m8v, woodcut initials. (Title with erased inscription, spotting, a few quires heavily browned, o8 with yellow stain at margin, waterstaining towards end strongly affecting final leaf.) Contemporary limp vellum, manuscript title on spine (crinkled, endpapers renewed). Provenance : Pauli Cagnaconi, bought at Pisa, June 1573 (inscription on front blank; frequent marginalia in [?]his and another hand). FIRST EDITION of this collection attributed to Lull, reprinted in 1600. It includes an early treatise on pearls and precious stones. The editor was a physician from Strasbourg who dedicated the work not to a great patron but three of his fellow students from Bunzlau in Silesia.
