LURIA, Isaac (1534-1572). Commentary on Sifra di-Tseni'uta from the Zohar (with the Pirka Tanyana ). MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER [Central or Eastern Europe, 17th-18th century] 4 o (240 x 185 mm). 36 leaves, with original Hebrew foliation + numerous blank leaves. Brown ink. Ashkenazic semi-cursive script. Later blind-stamped diced russia over bevelled wooden boards, covers with arabesque centerpiece ornament and floral decoration (clasps missing, rebacked and strengthened, weak hinges), old sprinkled edges, two old paper flyleaves at back and front. CONTENTS: This commentary is one of the few works composed by Isaac Luria himself and not a redaction by his disciples. Cf. G. Scholem, in Kiryat Sefer 19 (1942/3) p. 184-199; and Y. Avivi in Alei Sefer 11 (1984) p. 105-106, and idem, Binyan Ariel (Jerusalem 1987) p. 19. Over 50 manuscripts of this work are extant. PROVENANCE: Daniel Itzig (stamped).
