MADE FOR CHARLES GORDON ESQ JOHN DICKSON EDINBURGH A RARE BRASS CORNERED OAK STORAGE CASE FOR A DOUBLE 12-BORE PINFIRE SHOTGUN, circa 1890, with triple brass reinforced corners, central vacant brass circular escutcheon with coin-milled edge, flush-fitting swinging closure hooks, the interior lined and compartmented in the English manner with green baize and fitted for 30in. barrels, lidded compartment possibly for cartridges and with provision for a pair of turn-screws, a striker removal tool, firing pin pot, cleaning rods and oil bottle (all absent), card 'Dickson' trade-label inside lid, the whole remaining in fine condition and complete with its leather outer slip-case embossed 'CHARLES GORDON ESQ' and bearing a gummed circular paper label hand written (possibly) 'ATT H&H W. MR F.H. ROBINSON, C/O AMERICAN EXPRESS CO, 84 QUEEN STREET, LONDON E.C' and 'FROM (the) GRAND, CARLISLE' together with further remnants of a Carlisle Railway Porters label (cross-straps, end flap and handle all defective, some staining) Other Notes: The london offices of The American Express Company were located at 84 Queen Street until 1911.
