Made for Charles Gordon JOHN DICKSON & SON A 12-BORE ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 4312, 30in. nitro reproved fine damascus barrels, the rib engraved 'JOHN DICKSON & SON. 63 PRINCES STREET. EDINBURGH', and '3', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. both, wall thicknesses at 18 and 20-, some pits, Jones patent rotary underlever, carved percussion fences, non-rebounding back-action locks, fine acanthus scroll engraving, brushed and reblued finish, 14 3/8in. replacement stock, reblued steel buttplate with '3' to the top tang, fore-end with minor repair, weight 7lb. 2oz., in a canvas case Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed as No.3 of a trio of 12-bore double breach-loading hammerguns on the 8th January 1890 for Charles Gordon Other Notes: Barrels: 76cm Chambers: 70mm Stock length: 37cm Weight: 3.231Kg Functions with snapcaps: yes
