A SHIP'S PASSPORT. Attractively engraved, with calligraphic heading "By the President of the United States," with vignettes of a fully-rigged American sailing vessel at top and a detailed harbor scene with lighthouse and sailing vessels, requesting that the Brig Dian commanded by John H. Seaward be permitted to "Pass with her Company, Passengers, Goods, and Merchandise without any hindrance, siezure or molestation..." -- MONROE, JAMES, President . Partly printed document signed ("James Munroe"), Washington, D.C., 24 January 1818. 1 page, folio, with original papered Great Seal of the U.S., accomplished in manuscript , PRINTED ON PARCHMENT, one small hole (just catching a letter of text) . An attractive vignette by S. Anderson of a soldier receiving his land grant, with the banner "Militi Forti et Fideli." As a reward for service in the "late Army of the United States", President Munroe grants Chiteon Lackey, a "Private in Follets Companay Eleventh Regiment of Infantry, a tract of 160 acres" in the territory of Illinois.
