Engraved title (a few repairs to margin), two engraved folding plates by GREGORIUS FOSMAN and MEDINA MATRITENSIS (both backed with linen repairing old tears) and ten engraved plates of emblems. (Some occasional pale dampstaining.) 19th-century calf, Stirling's motto and monogram gilt-stamped on covers, edges gilt (a few repairs, some light rubbing). Provenance : W.B. Chorley (small inkstamp on engraved title margin); William Stirling (bookplate, binding). The funeral celebration in Madrid for MARIE LOUISE of Orléans (1662-1689), Queen consort of Spain from 1679 to her death in 1689 as the wife of King Charles II, includes a large engraved portrait with an anagrammatic poem based on the phrase "Maria Alloisia Regina Hispaniae." The second plate shows the elaborate catafalque erected for the occasion. Ten emblematic plates, each with four emblems, are found towards the end with accompanying text.
