Beschreibung:

MAGINI, Giovanni Antonio (1555-1617). Italia . Bologna: 1620. 2° (395 x 280mm). Engraved title, portrait of the author, and 61 maps, most double-page, all hand-coloured in a contemporary hand. (Considerable worming throughout, principally to margins but touching the margins of many of the first maps in the volume.) Old vellum (worn, inner hinge split, section of upper cover torn away.); sold as an atlas not subject to return. Magini's attractive atlas provides a comprehensive series of Italian maps for the first part of the 17th century, combining the traditional styles of the Italian map maker with features used in North European mapping, such as the 'Mercator' style wavy lines for the sea patterns. Nordenskiold 2 137.
