Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) - Letter - an important Gandhi letter, written in Guajarati, just a few months before his attempted assassination: Dear Sister, No expectation should be there from your side. I am writing this to send the message of Mani to you. She has received your Rs. 25 from you. And also Rs. 30 from Mridula. So for now you or anyone else do not send her anything. I am also writing this to Mridula. Mani’s health stays well and everything is quiet. In future there is much difficulties. And [Illegible] Mani is passing the days in pleasure. Days are passing….….in spinning. Take care of the sisters (women) who are leaving the Sabarmati. They will leave around 22nd [so take care]. Hope the Doctor is well. Hope their clinic is getting good income. How is the health of your eyes? Make sure my [Illegible] is with you! 15-3-34 Blessings from Bapu Condition - edgewear, a small torn section to one corner and general fragility. 20cm x 15cm. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948) was an Indian lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist and political ethicist who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India's independence from British Rule, and in turn inspire movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. Gandhi's birthday, 2 October, is commemorated in India as Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday, and worldwide as the International Day of Nonviolence. Gandhi is commonly, though not formally, considered the Father of the Nation in India, and was commonly called Bapu (Father). Provenance - from the collection of Dr Balvantrai N. Kanuga, Gandhi's personal long-term physician and friend.
