Manufacturer: Rookwood Description: Set of four Rookwood plates done in 1883, all pressed forms with Limoges style colors with lots of fired on gold trim, applied by hand by an artist, most likely a Pottery Club member, whose initials are JCM. 1. A charger with embossed maple leaves and is listed in the Shape Record book as number 35, a desert plate originally carved by Laura Fry. Measuring 10 1/8 inches in diameter, the piece has cast holes in the foot rim for hanging. Impressed Rookwood in block letters, 1883, Y for yellow clay and with a small kiln mark. 2, 3, and 4 are all smaller plates with embossed zinnias done in much the same way but each with a slightly different color scheme. All are signed by JCM on the back. Two are marked Rookwood in block letters and dated 1883 with a Y for yellow clay. All four are in amazing original condition and have been in the same family for many years. The plates are examples of an attempt by Rookwood to mass produce but in 35 years, these are the first we have seen. Size: 10 1/8
