Beschreibung:

Born in Charleroi in 1901, Marcel Delmotte began to work as a construction painter and independently learnt the art of drawing. Profoundly marked by classicism, he focused on depicting the nude, and sought pictorial inspiration from Quattrocento artists such as Piero della Francesca and Paolo Uccello He often treated ambitious subjects in large-format works, combining mythological references, with historical and imaginary landscapes, thereby echoing with surrealist esthetics. Checkerboard floors characteristically appear in his painting in which they help structure complex arrangements of figures in motion, further complexified in this pictorial composition with the introduction of additional mysteries and symbols
