(Title browned, with upper margin restored, repair to foremargin and washed inscription or pen trial, some browning and occasional small blemishes to text, D7 with fault at bottom margin, last two text leaves with tattered outer margins, without final blanks.) Blue morocco gilt by David, later supralibros. Provenance : ms corrections on D7r, H6r and M4r (washed) -- purchased from Ch. Bosse, 1928. (Without preliminary blank, slight soiling and creasing to A1r, 70mm. repaired tear to A4 affecting several letters on verso.) Red morocco gilt by Chambolle-Duru, later supralibros. Provenance : Baron Pichon (his sale, 19-24 April 1869, lot 595) -- Hector de Backer (his sale, 3-6 May 1926, lot 896) -- purchased from L. Giraud-Baudin, 1933. FIRST EDITION with privilege dated 19 June 1678 and 'achevé d'imprimer' 30 December 1687. Contains the famous ode to La Rochefoucauld.
