Document Signed ("Maria Theresia"), 13 pp recto and verso, folio, on vellum, Vienna, December 16, 1771, relating to Count Ferenc Esterhazy's membership of the Order of St. Stephen, text in black, red, and gold ink within elaborate black and gold rococo borders, the first page with gilt lettering with striped and foliate decoration, bound in original red morocco, covers elaborately gilt with rococo borders and Hungarian armorial centerpieces, with attached seal of Maria Theresa contained within brass skippet, countersigned by Georg Fekete von Galantha and Ferdinand Scultety, wanting two ties. ATTRACTIVE ROYAL DOCUMENT, WITH WAX SEAL. Count Ferenc Esterhazy de Galantha [1715-1785], known as "Quinquin," was the progenitor of the Order of St. Stephen, suggesting it to Maria Theresa in 1764 as a way of easing tensions in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Maria Theresa was a Habsburg by birth and became Archduchess of Austria, and Queen of Hungary and Bohemia from 1740-1780.
