MASSACHUSETTS] The charter granted by Their Majesties King William and Queen Mary, to the inhabitants of the province of the Massachusetts-Bay in New-England . Boston: Bartholomew Green and John Allen 1699. [BOUND WITH] Acts and Laws, Of His Majesties Province of the Massachusetts-Bay, in New-England. Boston: Bartholomew Green and John Allen 1699. 19th century pebbled dark brown morocco. 11 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches (29 x 18.5 cm); [2], 3-15, [1] pp., collating A-B^[4]; 158, [4] pp., collating A-T^(4), V^(6) [-V6, blank]. Binding somewhat rubbed, Bar Association stamps at the heads of the title-pages, the Charter with an old restoration to the blank portion of the upper margin, somewhat toned but generally a sound, clean copy. The Charter is generally found bound together with the Laws. These are the first revision of the Province Laws, and were considered "among the rarest of rare books" when listed in the Brinley sale of 1893. The Charter granted by William and Mary in 1691 actually added the Plymouth Colony, the Maine Plantation, and Nova Scotia to Massachusetts. Evans 868, 867; Tower 148; Church 781-2.
