MAX ERNST Mr. Knife Miss Fork . Text by René Crevel Paris: The Black Sun Press, 1931. Octavo (180 x 120 mm). 19 black and white photograms with original printed tissue guards. Original black cloth, spine and front cover richly panelled and blocked in gilt, back cover repeating the design in blind (lacking publisher's slipcase, gilt slightly rubbed, gilt frame slightly oxidized); black cloth folding case. FIRST EDITION, LIMITED TO 255 COPIES, ONE OF 200 ON BRISTOL PAPER, apparently in a variant binding. Copies on Bristol paper were normally issued in a blue cloth binding with blue endpapers; this one is in a black cloth binding with black endpapers, which was used for the 50 signed copies on Holland Van Gelder Zonen.
