Beschreibung:

MAX HUBER (1919-1992) SIRENELLA. 1946. 53x371/4 inches. Autorizz, Milan. Condition B-: expertly restored losses and overpainting in margins. Born in Zürich, Huber moved to Milan in the 1930's where he worked for Studio Boggeri. He returned to Switzerland briefly before settling again in Italy in 1946. He had a strong influence on Italian graphic design, mixing constructivist principles with latin fantasy. His posters for La Rinascente, as well as those done for the Italian Automobile Club and Olivetti, can be considered masterpieces of well balanced, wild imagination. This poster, for a ballroom in Zürich, is one of his best and rarest images. A jazz fan, Huber was obviously very inspired by the subject. A drummer (who strongly resembles Cab Calloway) is surrounded by colorful circles representing the emanating tempo of the Swing sound. Seeming to swing along with the music, the vertically and horizontally organized text is pure sans-serif in a perfect lay-out. Müller-Brockmanm, p. 222 no. 266.
